Who doesn't like a big plate of buffalo wings while you watch your favorite team battle for victory? Or maybe you are just looking for something fun and different to serve for a gathering. Sure, you could order out wings, but, if you want a more economical and healthy option give our recipe a try!

Ingredients

This recipe makes enough wings for 2-4 people depending on how big of eaters you are feeding. More mouths to feed? Just add more wings! The sauce goes a long way so, you can probably double or triple the amount of wings without increasing the sauce recipe.

  • 1 Family sized package of chicken wings. About 15-20 wings. Small drumsticks can work too.

  • 8oz. Franks RedHot Original sauce

  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 Tablespoon sugar

  • 1 Tablespoon butter or your favorite cooking oil

  • Ranch dressing

  • 1 lb carrots or pre-cut carrot sticks

  • 1 stalk celery of pre-cut celery sticks

Optional Potato Rounds

  • 2 lbs golden potatoes

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • Garlic powder to taste

  • Onion powder or onion salt to taste

Making The Wings

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. If you have a convection use convection mode to cook faster and crisper. While oven is heating prepare the wings. Place cooling rack in a baking sheet and spray with non-stick spray. Remove wing tips and discard. Separate into wings and drumlettes and arrange on baking sheet allowing gaps between wings for best cooking. Bake for 45-60 minutes, flipping and rotating occasionally, until wings are golden brown and slightly crisp.

When wings are ready they will look like the picture above. Increase or decrease cooking time depending on how crispy you like your wings. For some added crispiness and browning, turn oven up to 400 for last 10-15 minutes of cooking.

Prepare the sauce. Add 8oz Franks RedHot Original sauce to small mixing bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 Tablespoon of sugar and 1 Tablespoon of butter to sauce. Heat in microwave removing and stirring occasionally until butter is completely melted. You can substitute cooking oil for butter or add more or less butter based on your preference.

The finished sauce will look something like the above picture.

Time to spin the wings! Add some sauce and some wings to a large mixing bowl and spin or mix until wings are thoroughly covered with sauce. Best done while wings are still very hot.

Wings are now ready to eat! Serve with celery, carrots and ranch dressing because everything is better with ranch dressing! We find that our wings taste best when the sauce is allowed to soak in for a good 5-10 minutes before eating. Enjoy!

Optional Potato Rounds Recipe

If you want to put your buffalo wings over the top, serve them up with a heaping amount of crispy potato rounds! In our opinion golden potatoes work the best and cook up with a nice crisp outside and smooth creamy texture on the inside.

Slice potatoes into consistently sized rounds. Thinner potatoes will produce a crisper round that cooks up faster. Place cut rounds in bowl of cold water to remove extra starch. Once all potatoes are cut rinse and dry with paper towels. The drier you can get your raw potato rounds the better.

Add olive oil and seasoning to raw potatoes and mix thoroughly so both sides of all rounds are covered with some oil and seasoning. Here is where you can experiment with all kinds of different seasonings. A good reliable mix is garlic powder and onion salt. We typically add a heavy amount of seasoning to produce a nice crust of flavor on the finished rounds.

Add cooling racks to some baking sheets and spray with non-stick spray. Arrange potato rounds in single layer with spacing in between. You can put these in the oven and cook along with the wings at 350 degrees, but, for a crisper, browner potato cook separately at 400 degrees. Cooking time varies significantly based on how brown you like your rounds and what your cooking temperature is. Usually about 25-40 minutes.

Your finished rounds will look something like this. Delicious and the perfect side dish to go with your wings. And of course, everything is better dipped in a little ranch dressing!
